  • About the Artist

Alix Delmas was born in Bayonne in 1962.

She studied painting at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, a practice she abandoned as soon as she received her diploma and the jury's congratulations, in order to devote herself fully to aesthetic experience through photography, video, sculpture, architectural objects... She lives and works in Paris. She leaves the city for moments in the Cantal, the Basque Coast or the Médoc and escapes thanks to residences that she organizes in Austria, New York, Cuba, Okinawa...

She was awarded the ADAGP Monograph Collection Grant with the work Captures published in April 2019 by LOCO. She received with her video and photographic work, in 2016 the Arte Laguna Prize, in 2013 the Celeste Prize, in 2004 the Altadis Prize. Her works have been included in numerous collections in France and abroad, including the FRAC Auvergne, the Frac Artothèque du Limousin, the Mudo, the FNAC, the Museum of Art and Archaeology, Aurillac, the Leube Foundation, Salzburg, The Albertina Museum Wien, Landesmuseum, Oberösterreich, Linz, the British Artists' Film & Video Study Collection, Central Saint Martins collection, University of the Arts London .... She is working on her fourth permanent work for the city of Ivry-sur-Seine.

"From the beginning, at the end of the 1990s, Alix Delmas' plastic work has been distinguished by what will become a major topicality, a recurrent aspect, as if obsessive: to displace bodies and landscapes - hers, those of her models plus ours, the spectators, by analogy - by positioning them in an unexpected way. His work, in this case, confronts us with a common space, which we share with the artist. Space apprehended under another angle of perception and sensation, space made poetic for some, space deconstructed for others, in all cases enriched."
