  • About the Artist

Albane Hupine lives and works in Rouen.

She graduated from Villa Arson and exhibits regularly in France and abroad.

She recently exhibited in particular at the Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery in Pantin for Jeune Création in 2017 where she was awarded a Prize, twice as part of the November Prize in Vitry, at the Châteauvert Art Center in 2019, or at the Museum. of Ningbo Art in China on the occasion of a Residency.

"My work combines painting, drawing and photographs and is imbued as much by the history of painting and the gaze as by the artisanal techniques of working with textiles. These different influences intersect in paintings and installations by stratification and transparency. We thus find a particular interest in the gesture and its inscription in the material and the support, but also in the representation of a projected space, confronted with the exhibition space, on which is superimposed that of the workshop.

As the title of a solo exhibition already underlined in 2014, "What is, what can be", my pieces play with what you think you see. Thus photographs from the series "The conservation of matter" which take in the studio the tinted canvases, taken out of the bath and in the process of drying. From there result images evoking indistinct natural elements.

My pieces are taken as living and moving worlds, in perpetual formation, like the "Atelier" or "silva" installations which feed on elements of other existing pieces, which can be transformed, and which carry within them both the memory of others and the particularity of their context. This idea of the living and of installation in movement has been accentuated since 2018 with the use of dyes and paints of plant and mineral origins in the paintings.

My pictorial practice thus plays on multiple meanings of readings, windows that open, close or follow one another in an order that is neither chronological nor categorical, a fluidity of exchanges specific to a questioning of the shape of the current world . "

View from viewing room: "silva", 2019. Natural dyes, India ink and tempera gouache on canvas and prints mounted on aluminum, variable dimensions, here approximately 500x300 cm.
